Raymond Boyd

Raymond Randolph Boyd born 2/15/1933 in a coal company house in Yukon, McDowell County, WV transitioned back to spirit on the fall equinox 9/23/2026 with his son Randy and his daughter inlaw Jennifer by his side. Ray was preceded in death by his wife Nancy. His parents were Amanda and Glen Boyd. He was the youngest of eight children. His siblings were Maxine, Juanita, Evelyn, Bea, Thurmond, Max, and Rush. Raymond attended Big Creek High School where he became a star football player under legendary Coach Merle Gainer. He received a football scholarship to Concord University. Once he graduated college he became an award-winning salesman. Most notable was his dedication to his wife and family. He was a loving father and coached little league baseball. After his wife Nancy developed Alzheimer's disease, he took care of her for 10 years. He also shared in the care of his wife's mother, as well her grandmother for nearly 20 years. Ray's personality possessed that rare quality of equanimity. He always maintained mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in difficult situations. Even on his death bed he remained upbeat. He is survived by his beloved son Randy and his beloved daughter in law Jennifer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be announced by New River Gorge Funeral Service, 350 W. Maple Avenue, Fayetteville.
