Cynthia “Cindy” Hambrick Garrett, 63, of Charleston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on May 3, 1963, Cindy was the cherished daughter of the late Bill and Gaye Hambrick (for whom Cindy was named). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, David Hambrick and Steve Hambrick; her beloved sister, Kathryn (Kitty) Hambrick; and her niece, Alyssa Hambrick.
Left to cherish Cindy’s memory are her sister, Melissa “Missy” Luce (Donnie); brothers Edward “Eddie” Hambrick and Andrew (Andy) Hambrick; nieces Ashlyn Hambrick(Wesley), and Allegra (Allie) Hambrick ; great-nephew Preston Hambrick; great-nieces Aspyn Wilshire and Adalyn Wilshire; along with many extended family members, lifelong friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Cindy was also married to Ray Garrett, with whom she shared many years of her life.
Cindy lived her life with determination and a heart full of generosity. She was hardworking, and took great pride in everything she did. She believed in giving her best and found fulfillment in building a successful career through dedication and perseverance.
Outside of work, Cindy found joy in the little things that made life beautiful. She loved to travel and looked forward to every opportunity to explore somewhere new and make lasting memories. She loved shopping, especially for a beautiful purse or a new outfit. She treasured time with her family and adored her beloved pugs, Laci and Lexi, who brought her years of companionship.
Affectionately known as the “Princess” of the family, Cindy carried herself with grace, confidence, and a playful spirit. It was a title lovingly given to her by those who knew her best, and one she wore proudly.
Although Alzheimer’s disease gradually changed so much of her life, Cindy remained surrounded by compassion, dignity, and unwavering devotion. Her sister, Missy, became her fiercest advocate, faithfully serving as Cindy’s voice when she could no longer speak for herself. She stood beside her through every challenge, tirelessly advocating for her care, protecting her dignity, celebrating every victory, and loving her every step of the way. Their bond was one of unwavering loyalty, selfless devotion, and extraordinary love. As importantly, that same devotion to Cindy's care and comfort, was constantly exhibited by bothers Eddie and Andy, as well as her niece, Ashlyn. Cindy's Team took on every obstacle and challenge of her diagnosis with fierce love and unrelenting efforts to provide the best quality of life attainable for her.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Cindy’s devoted caregivers, Alicia, Macaila, Maggie and Brooke. Their patience, tenderness, and commitment allowed Cindy to remain surrounded by constant love throughout her illness. They became so much more than caregivers, they became family. Their compassion and exceptional care will never be forgotten.
Though Alzheimer’s may have taken many memories, it never erased the beautiful life she lived or the countless lives she touched. Her family finds comfort in knowing she has been reunited with those who went before her and is finally free from the burdens of her illness. They find peace in knowing she is once again surrounded by those who welcomed her home with open arms. She will be deeply missed and forever carried in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
